Party Basics Entertaining a large group is easy - here are some tips. View Super Planner Tips
Assemble your buffet table
Left to right, arrange plates, then main dishes, vegetables, salads & breads. Napkins and utensils go at the end so guests can use both hands while serving themselves. Have plenty of clean plates on the table so you don't have to run back for more.
Add instant flair
For an elegant look, use footed serving dishes or place foods on cake plates. Try this decorator trick: place small boxes or upside-down pans on the table, then cover it all with a cloth. Use the tops of the boxes or pans as food display stands.

Take two
If you have a large crowd, create a two-line buffet, or set up two tables – one for main dishes, one for beverages and desserts. Shop for folding tables and chairs, dishes and linens at Kmart.com.
Provide healthy options
Guests may have special dietary needs or food allergies, so include options like fruit, plain veggies, sugar-free desserts & alcohol-free beverages. Identify dishes with small cards so guests know what they're choosing.

Standing room only
Avoid foods that are messy or difficult for guests to eat when standing. Check the buffet often to restock platters or remove empty trays.

Food safety starts in the kitchen
Check your refrigerator and freezer temperatures. Your fridge should be set between 36 and 40°F. Your freezer should be set at 0°F or lower. Keep hot foods hot (140°F or higher) & cold foods cold (40°F or lower). Thaw frozen foods in the fridge or microwave on the correct settings. Never thaw meats on your kitchen counter! Bacteria multiply quickly.
Serving outdoors
Nice weather is prime time for picnics & outdoor parties. Unfortunately, warm weather can also mean food spoilage. Any foods exposed to temperatures above 40°F for more than two hours, or above 90°F for more than one hour, should be tossed. So don’t save leftovers from an outdoor party. It’s safer to throw them out.
